EUROPA SF is a pan‑European platform dedicated to celebrating, promoting, and strengthening the rich landscape of European science fiction and fantasy. It exists to give visibility to the countless cultural and artistic expressions of the European imagination, in all their forms and traditions, from literature and visual arts to publishing, magazines, festivals, conventions, and every creative endeavor that explores the speculative and the fantastic. Our mission is rooted in the belief that Europe’s diverse voices, languages, and creative histories deserve a shared space where they can meet, inspire one another, and grow together.
We use English not as a cultural preference, but simply because it functions as the most widely understood lingua franca across the continent. It allows readers, authors, critics, editors, artists, and fans from every corner of Europe to communicate without barriers, to exchange ideas freely, and to discover each other’s work. Behind this choice lies a commitment to inclusivity: EUROPA SF welcomes every European culture, every national tradition, and every imaginative voice, regardless of language or background.
At its core, EUROPA SF aims to connect. It seeks to bring together the many SFF fandoms of Europe, to create bridges between communities that have long existed in parallel rather than in dialogue. It strives to link readers with writers, creators with audiences, festivals with fans, and local scenes with the broader European context. By doing so, the platform hopes to foster a sense of shared purpose and mutual curiosity, encouraging collaboration, translation, and cultural exchange.
EUROPA SF is also a space for reflection and conversation. EUROPA SF invites everyone who cares about the future of European speculative fiction to take part, to contribute, and to help shape a vibrant, interconnected, democratic cultural space dedicated to the imagination.
EUROPA SF is not just a website. It is a meeting point, a cultural bridge, and a collective project. Its strength lies in the people who choose to inhabit it.
EUROPA SF wants to bring the members of the European fandom together to build a continental-scale data network. Editors, writers, fans, anyone with an interest in science-fiction and fantasy will be able to see what is happening in any European country.
Europa SF is conceived as an English-language portal of news and information from and for the European fandom, a generic site: https://europasf.org (on demand will be created specific subdomains for each country/fandom involved − bg.europasf.org, hr.europasf.org, ro.europasf.org, de.europasf.org etc − and each country will manage its own subdomain).
Our central idea is to have a permanent, real-time mirroring of all European SF&F products, events and activities. We hope that all European countries with a SF&F community will become involved in this pan-European project.
Europa SF is dedicated to posting news, links and original materials related to science fiction, fantasy, horror, comics, films and TV series from all over Europe. Here are the columns we suggest and their titles:
1. Editorial – a general article on European SF
2. On the spot – short articles about important national or European events (festivals, conventions, book fairs, conferences etc.)
3. News – short news on major/minor European or world events
4. Events – a calendar, just the name and the date of the event
5. Reports – articles about (on-going) national or European events
6. Films & Books Reviews
7. Authors, Publishers and Magazines –
If our correspondents indicate there is an interest in interviews, panels, essays, films, TV series etc. we will introduce new sections to cover them.
Any suggestions and recommendations are most welcome. We need at least one English-speaking person from each European SF community who is willing to help us with this project.
